Well, when i was pregnant, I had to get medical assistance (from welfare) and it included dental and vision.
I dont think you have to be pregnant to still apply, because my daughter is 1, and i still have the insurance for myself.
I am also 20, and in need of braces. i am scared of the dentist, though. And I am having mouth problems, and must go soon.
So try out welfare. I dont know how you feel about it, but hey, its something.
From my experience it's really hard to find an actual dental insurance plan unless its offered through a group such as your job. However you should look in to dental discount plans. Although they are not actual insurance plans they can still help you save a significant amount of money. i recently joined this plan :

It has actually saved me a lot of money. Dental insurance is not offered through my job and I feel like this is the next best thing. I initially joined the plan because I wanted to get braces, but the Orthodontist quoted me over $5,000. I started looking into these plans and Ameriplan saved me over $2500.00. My braces only ended up being $2400.00. These planes cover a pretty wide range of services, but you have to go to a dentists that is contracted with the plan. The plan that I purchased through Ameriplan is only about $8.00 per month. It's proven itself worth up until now.
You can also ask your dentist office if they know of any insurance plans or discount plans that they participate in that would be beneficial to you.
You can also visit this website and it can provide you with a list of dental plans in your area that you can enroll in: http://www.dentalplans.com/
Most dental office will also work out a in-house payment arrangement with you in conjuction with any dental plan.
Hope this helps : -)

The amount of mileage that you drive in a year can have an impact on the amount you pay on your car insurance.
I know of two places in Florida where you can get affordable dental care (fees about half that of a private dentist):
University of Florida's College of Dentistry at Gainesville, and
Nova Southeastern University's School of Dental Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale.
Hope this helps.
Is the insurance you are looking at thru your work? I pay about $30 a week for my daughter and I. My husband just got insurance thru his work and it would be $18 per week just for him. We both have Anthem BCBS.
In my experience, any insurance plan you go out and buy (rather than get thru work) is always more expensive and doesn't cover as much. You always have to answer questions about your health and whether you'll be needing expensive tests ran. That can hurt your chances of being insured.
Good luck. It's expensive, but it's worth it.
I would encourage you to visit this site: http://www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 3 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars. From Fillings, xrays, exams, extractions…etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. Orthodontics and cosmentic surgery also. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. Hope this helps out.
You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Understanding what you are buying is as important as the price. An agent can give you the knowledge you need so that you can decide what the right balance is between affordability and policy benefits.
If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles, low co-pays and optional vision and dental benefits your monthly premiums will be significant.
On the other hand because you are young, presumably healthy and probably don't often use the health care system you might consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe. In this type of plan the insurance company does not pay benefits until you first reach a significant out of pocket cost (this is a deductible). Ask the agent if an HSA works for you.
If you'd rather have more comprehensive individual health insurance coverage, such as preventive care coverage, consider a PPO or HMO plan with a lower deductible. Consider higher co-pays for doctor's office visits and perhaps not cover prescription drugs.
Either of these approaches will result in a lower monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit or prescription and still come out ahead.
Check with the agent that writes your other insurance or perhaps your parent's agent he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health status. They can answer questions as to what is and is not covered by the policy, explain deductibles and co-pays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network. (Networks in PPO and HMO plans are very important considerations).
Some are going to suggest you go to their web site so that they earn a few pennies on a "click through". Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably know there is much more to choosing the right health insurance than price. Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.
I too at one time needed some coverage when I was in college. I would stongly encourage you to visit this website: http://www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up over 5 years ago when I was in college, and they have saved me thousands since. From deep cleanings, xrays, fillings..etc. all services are included in this very affordable plan. Orthodontist and cosmetic surgery are also included. Medical, vision, Rx and more. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Good luck and hope this helps…
Most orthodontists will work out a payment schedule for you. My friend's braces were paid for over the course of 5 years.
There are also some low profile braces that increase the course of treatment by a few months.Eg: Victory Series by 3M.
With Dental insurance, braces will cost you around $2000-$3000. So, if you have them for 2 years, they will cost you around $100 per month. Without insurance, they will cost you $5000. So, getting a dental insurance would be the first step.
If money is still a problem, you could get a job and pay for them.
Braces are a LOT cheap in other countries. In Mexico, they cost like $200 or $300.
I would also suggest consulting a few orthos' because some charge more than others.
