The landlord had to have those steps taken to dry the unit out properly and prevent mold from growing. Had he not done that, months from now you would be demanding compensation because you got sick from mold or because your possessions were damaged. Running a few de-hues and fans for a few days was no where near enough to completely dry the structure. It might look dry- but a restoration company can take a moisture meter and get readings showing that it was still wet.

They have to open up the walls to get the interior of the wall dry. You don't want mold growing in there. I'm surprised they did not rip up the flooring as well.

Those renovations should be grounds for your land lord to let you break your lease penalty free so you can move somewhere else, if you choose. Your best bet would be to ask your land lord if he will let you out of your lease so you can move somewhere else.

If you have a renters policy, that would pay for your damaged property and possibly the spoiled food. It may also help with additional living expenses if you need to stay in a hotel while this apartment is repaired.

The land lord is not responsible for these cost. Nor is his insurance company.

If you had a renters policy, report the claim to them. Otherwise, you will have to come out of pocket for those expenses.

When I was in an apartment, a pipe in the ceiling burst. My apartment had 4 inches of water through out. My renters paid to pack out all my belongings, dry them, clean them, itemize the total loss items and store them. Would have paid to pack back into the apartment after repairs. Since I was moving out of state anyway at the end of the month, I just stayed with a friend and left my belongings in storage for that month. My apartment complex would have let me move into an empty unit or break my lease had a unit not been available. My unit had to be completely gutted. Taken down to the stud walls an rebuilt. That was the only way to make sure it was dry and to prevent to spread of mold.

My renters policy cost me $119.00 a year in premium for $10,000 in coverage. The costs you will incur out of pocket will exceed what you would have paid in renters premiums.

The Bond amount is to be left in Cash if the importer does NOT have a credit card. The amount applied to your credit card will be close to $25.00 Despite what you insurer may say that "you are covered all over North America", Your CANADIAN auto insurance is useless in Mexico and in the event of an accident you will be held until all parties are satisfied.
It is a good thing that you want to go to Mazatlan. You can drive straight down the Baja to La Paz and take the ferry to Mazatlan.
You will regret going down the coast of mainland Mexico. It is full of mountainous hairpin turns and just plain dangerous and you may average 25 miles per hour.
    You can google the area
The toll roads are not cheap and there are none until you reach the Gudalajara area and be advised that Pemex gas stations will only accept Pesos. Take a couple bank cards and Travelers checks and a couple hundred dollars worth of Pesos. It will cost you around 700 Pesos to fill up. There are ATMs all over the place. Be sure you have your car serviced for the trip.
You can go the the Mexican consulate and have the paperwork done , including the Temp Import sticker that you must apply to the windshield to the lower drivers side corner. It will save a lot of time at the border. The Mexican Consulate is at 1177 w Hastings close to Thurlow I believe.
Waits at the border getting all the paperwork done can involve hours. If you don`t then be sure you take care of the permits at the border as there is a secondary checkpoint 20 miles or so into Mexico where you will promptly be sent back to the border………do it in advance.
Lewis and lewis will sell you a policy or you can buy a policy for as long as you are in Mexico no minimum 3 months or anything like that. Lewis and Lewis has 30 day policies from $79.00
You will both need Passports and the FMM tourist permits allow you to stay for up to 180 days as well as the Car permit….180 days. Don`t forget to turn in and cancel the permit when you leave Mexico.

Please calm down, See you doctor and ask him or her if you could have it done as a life saver. I know what it is to have a problem with your back. Only yours is worse than mine. Your doctor might have a way that you can be helped, on medical grounds.

im sure it depends on what state you live in.. what state is it? im assuming that if you have custody of a child you are entitled to the same benefits the mother would be.. in pa we have subsidized daycare, where the state pays for the majority of the care and you would pay a co pay, which is usally not much and sometimes the copay is zero..as far as only having a 1 bedroom, im not sure how cps would feel about.. i know here they want the baby to have its own room, but realistically not many parents, esp single parents or someone in your situation has the ability to afford a 2 bedroom apartment.. your best bet is to wait to talk to the lady about the situation.. she should have all the info you need regarding the living situation, the childcare, and even getting you assitance to pay for food and diapers.. unless you make a LOT of money.. you may be responsible for it on your own.. but again the income limits are usually pretty high, and i know in pa it someone has temporary custody they get most of the benefits a foster parent would get.. which is pretty much the state paying for the majority of the stuff that the biological mother should be supplying

My friend, it all boils down to what you really want. It is nearly impossible to keep the door open on three possibilities until a sure good choice makes itself obvious.
I'd evaluate them all for trust first and toss the losers.
Then I'd evaluate them for fitting in with my plans in the near future.
Finally, if I wasn't deluding myself, I'd only have one easy pick, because it is impossible to change other people.

Hope that helps, that is what I would do.
